State: Delaware
Name: Cape Henlopen State Park
Location: The park is located east of Lewis Delaware just past the Cape May/Lewis Ferry Terminal.
Description: If you like the beach, like to fish, and like to bike ride as a family this is the place for you. We are planning our third week long trip in as many years to the park. The park is located east of Lewis Delaware just past the Cape May/Lewis Ferry Terminal. The camp sites are very nice and the facilities are well kept. Cape Henlopen State Park has an excellent beach area and bath house, accessible by a short car trip or a pleasant bike ride from the camp sites. The bike ride (recommended) will afford you beautiful views of the park. The park also has a great nature center, large fishing pier (arrive early), surf fishing area, and disk golf course (very tough). While you are at the park be sure to climb the tower!

Since camp sites are on a first come first serve basis, you need to arrive early and wait in line (worth the wait). While waiting you may select possible camp sites from maps provided by the staff.

More information is available on the Park Web Site: http://www.destateparks.com/chsp/chsp.htm

State: Kansas
Name: Hillsdale Lake
Location: In Hillsdale, 10 miles form Olathe, KS.
Description: Hillsdale Lake has WONDERFUL campgrounds!  They offer campsites with 1,2, or 3 utilities, and each campsite has its own fire ring, lantern holder, and picnic table.  Most of the campsites are right on the water! Paved campsite roads offer wonderful access, and the fishing is excellent both on the lake, and at the spillway of the dam.  Also has walking trails, showers/bathroom facilities in many of the campsites. Only bad experience we had was that our scooter was stolen on the last night of our "final camp" of the year (last year). After camping over a half dozen times, meeting wonderful people, etc. someone stole our scooter during the night.  Lesson learned:  Lock up all valuables, no matter how safe you feel!! And don't leave your dog at home (we did that night). If we had taken the dog with us, our scooter would still be ours!

State: Maine
Name: Hermit Island Campground
Location: On Hermit Island, which is just south of Bath, Maine
Description: Our most favorite campground is Hermit Island Campground, located on Hermit Island, which is just south of Bath, Maine.  The campsites are primitive; no water or electricity, but most of the sites are either right on the beaches of this island or on high bluffs overlooking the ocean. Most sites are also very private.  The camp store contains a lobster pound and the campground owner brings in fresh lobster every day.  Great views, wild deer, waterfowl, lush vegetation and and the rush of the surf at night to lull you to sleep - just an all-round beautiful experience!!!  It is less crowded before Memorial Day and after Labor Day.

State: Massachusetts
Name: Nickerson State Park
Location: Brewster, MA on Cape Cod
Description: Check it out at http://www.state.ma.us/dem/parks/nick.htm
Its a beautiful park and huge, this campground contains 7 areas of campsites of a 2000 acre park. It has a huge pond (Cliff Pond) which is more of a lake which is great for being on the beach, boating fishing, watersports and other things. There are a few smaller ponds there too. The ponds are stocked with trout and salmon. Some of the areas are a very short walk down a hill to Cliff Pond. There are tons of hiking and biking trails throughout the park and the Cape Cod Rail Trail, which is 25 miles of paved brick path, is right off the Park. There isn't any electricity or water on the campsites but there are faucets  with water nearby. The park has facilities such as an amphitheater, bike and boat rentals a nature center and park store, which always has what you need. Its a great place for a VERY cheap price, only 8 dollars a night. The restrooms and showers aren't the best or cleanest but what do you expect for 8 dollars a night. This campground is great because I have never been bitten by a mosquito every time I've been there. It is also the only place on the Cape that lets you have a campfire because of the dryness. Every year my family and I go here and stay in area 6 because of its closeness to Cliff Pond. Don't let the price fool you and think its not a good place, IT IS. There are many recreational activities to do there, and if you get sick of being there leave the park and explore the rest of Cape Cod. There is also a map of the campground at http://www.cctrails.org/nickbike.htm

State: North Carolina
Name: Cherokee KOA
Location: Cherokee, N.C. just over the mountain from Gatlinburg, TN
Description: See it for yourself here:
http://www.koakampgrounds.com/where/nc/33173.htm

I took my Hi-Lo to the Cherokee KOA back in 1994. I paid a little extra to get the campsite "by the stream/river". They had nice showers and restrooms. They also had a large rec. room with a big screen TV. They played "recent" releases. The campground roads were all paved. The scenery was wonderful, camping at the base of the Smoky mountains with a stream nearby.

The campground had LOTS of services. Shuttle busses to town, Dollywood, horse back riding, just about anything. They also have a pool and hot tub. For a charge you can rent a intertube and float down stream. I "Loved" this place. Now that I have a camper (1968 Apache Ramada) again, I will be going back.

It has a  boat launch and dock, large pool with slide, game room, store, snack area, and playground. You can get sites that are water only or water, sewer and electricity. Some sites are right on the waterway. Only a few miles from Emerald Isle Beach, there is plenty to do
either at the campground or in the surrounding cities.

State: North Carolina
Name: Grandfather Mountain Campground
Location: Boone, NC
Description: This campground was in a great location, close to many attractions. The lots were a bit small but in a beautiful location that made up for it!. The people were friendly and helpful.  There was a trout pond, gem mine and store on the property. They provided hayrides for the kids and adults all nite Saturday, because it was Halloween weekend. The bathhouses were heated, but for some reason I had to take a cold shower which was my only complaint. My husband had warm water on his side!

State: Pennsylvania
Name: Knoebels
Location: Central PA, near Bloomsburg & Danville
Description: This campground is for families with children... clean spacious sites, multiple restroom facilities, well stocked camp store and... one of the best free admission amusement parks around. The is family owned and promoted as a family environment, it's the type of place that you feel comfortable letting your children go to ride what they want and you can relax or take in your own bit of excitement.  The park has 2 top rated wood roller coasters that are worth the trip themselves along with enough other rides and entertainment to keep family members of all ages busy for days...  In case you can't find anything else to do.... they have a 3/4 million gallon pool...

Reservations are needed and the sites seem to fill up fast, but sometimes you can sneak in because of a cancellation.

State: New Jersey
Name: Jenny Jump State Park
Location: Near Hope, New Jersey
Description: Another State campground is a somewhat small one at Jenny Jump State
Park .  Quiet, not much to do but hike the trails or concentrate in-tent-ly on the camping adventure.  I wouldn't recommend a large trailer as many of the sites are large tent sized and
some are what they call "walk-in" (not far off the roadway but you can't drive-on-it).

State: Wisconsin
Name: Wyalusing State Park
Location: Near Prairie Du Chien in Southwest Wisconsin
Description: The confluence of the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers make a spectacular backdrop for this beautiful state park. The park contains dozens of Indian effigy mounds. Camp at the top of a 500 foot bluff, or in the less precipitous Homestead campground. Lots of hiking trails with spectacular overlooks, waterfalls, & caves to explore. Great boating/fishing in backwaters of the Mississippi. Nice little camp store/snack bar. Tennis courts, shelters, playgrounds, etc. Every time we've been there we've seen migrating Bald Eagles. We go every Columbus Day weekend in October for spectacular fall colors. Really nice place.
