First Canadian Fall Roundup 2001Hi Doug, We had a gathering of Apaches at the Fashawe Conservation Area just outside of London, Ontario this past weekend (9/23). What a beautiful spot for fall camping! It was in part an unofficial Round-up. Attendees included Bonnie and Mike and their three children from St. Claire Beach, Ontario - Theresa and Dave and their two children from Oakville, Ontario - Mo and Connie Bengry from Rochester Hills, MI. and Tiffany and myself with our two children from Auburn Hills, MI. Sorry that Les and Mark and their family's could not make it, you were both missed. Friday night as Mo and myself pulled in it rained heavy and hard. Everyone pitched in and we were leveled and set up in under five minutes. NASCAR pit crews have nothing on a crew of Apache people setting up a camper!!! As soon as we were set up wouldn't you know that the rain would stop and the skies would clear. It was great seeing everyone again and the weekend was definitely too short. My kids cried as we pulled away begging for one more day. I do sympathize with them. Our best times camping have been in Canada and these are truly good friends. I have attached a collage of the weekend activities. Next year Michigan in the spring, EH!? Tim.
First Canadian End-of-the Trail Apache Roundup was held in July in Norwich, Ontario.
This is a salute to the nine Apache families that attended the Apache Roundup on July 7th and 8th at Norwich Ontario. What we lacked in quantity we certainly had in quality for the people that attended were second to none. Your non-stop dedication to the Apache, as the world's greatest camper ever, cannot be surpassed. We trailer talked, swapped ideas, polished aluminum, cleaned gear boxes, gave away free parts and noted similarities and differences for most of the weekend. People were so great sharing and helping one another. Putting up and taking down campers as people arrived and left was just the start of it all. I looked in my 1977 Ramada once and found an original set of curtains lying on the seat, still in good shape, badly needed, according to my wife to replace those hideous deer stalker curtains we had presently. The oldest Apache Camper was a '65 Silver Eagle that belonged to Paul D. of Muskego Wis., the oldest original was my '67 Raven, the newest belonged to Fred and Jean of Fort Lauderdale Fl., the two most spic and span Royals belonged to Moe and Tim S. of Auburn Hills Mich., and the most unusual was Jim Hopkins' 79 Apache motor home (the guitar picker from Brantford). The most common colour was green with 6 campers of that colour. A common bond that formed, right from the start began with a swim in our pool the very first night and it continued on throughout the weekend around the portable fire-pit which everyone circled each night. The youngest and most favourite Apache-man was Ole' Elmer when he gave all the camp kids rides in his super white Goldwing sidecar motorcycle. Following Sunday morning brunch at the local Legion #190 the men headed out for a view of the most unique vintage motorcycle collection, while the women broke camp. By the way guys, Bob the curator really appreciated the $55.00 you all most generously collected for him and left under a picture of an eagle in my camper. Via the Norwich Museum bailed me out totally on the expenses for the event. Each Apache family left with a bumper sticker, an Apache dash plaque and numerous new friendships from Canada and U.S.A. Donna says sorry, she was not there to see you off. Keep in touch. Les Ferris
Attendee Reports:
...We just came home from a very wonderful 1st Canadian Roundup in Norwich, Ontario, a superb event organized by Mr. Les Ferris. We have made many new friends from Brantford, Ont., Florida, Kitchener-Waterloo, Ont., Michigan (including Ole and Mrs. Elmer), Norwich, Ont., Oakville, Ont. and Wisconsin. An excellent time was had by all camping families in attendance and we cannot wait until the planned U.S. National Roundup in Michigan next summer. Bonnie and I are proud to be counted among our friends within the Apache family.
Mike and Bonnie Pacuta(Above) is a collage of the Ontario Round-Up I put together. This was the best time I have ever had camping. My father in law, Mo and I helped get Mike and Bonnie's electronic ignition heater fired up (Darn wasps nests). Then Mo headed off to Les's heater and fired that one up also. I also helped Dave and Theresa get their gear boxes cleaned out and greased. ( You never felt real pressure till you have had Ole' Elmer watching as you do a gear box repair)!!! Elmer is the best! Connie, Tiff, Theresa and Bonnie customized Bonnie's curtains right on the spot. Jim entertained us with his guitar around the camp fire Saturday night and it was a great show. Paul and Jeanne joined in on the harmonica's. The Legion breakfast Sunday morning was wonderful. Thanks to Connie for being our designated camp mess hall. I would like to thank Les for putting this all together. It was a lot of work and I know we all enjoyed ourselves and very much appreciate the hard work and dedication he put into this. I believe we all made some lasting friendships and would like to camp with everyone again. We plan on camping again this summer in Canada and hope others can make it too. Let's do Ontario again this year, perhaps Les could sit down this time!

Eastern Region Roundup 2001 News:Fall 2001 Roundup Review:
10/22/01
The October 2001 Eastern Region Apache Roundup 2001 was held at Promised Land State Park in northeastern Pennsylvania.
Hi all. I had to take a while to rest up from that wonderful weekend at Promised Land State Park. Boy, did I pick great weather or what! The Kanes (Bill and Bonnie) had to move into a larger Apache since June. They brought their 1978 Roamer for the trial run. Rich and Katrina (don't think I spelled that right...) were there in their 'big blue tarp' with a little bitty Eagle underneath. I just couldn't get the Raven out of the garage so we had to make do with an off-brand for the weekend. We started the usual way with a little campfire on Friday night for some R&R time. Then off to bed for a good nights sleep.A late start Saturday morning lead to getting back together in the early afternoon to help and watch the Kanes setting up camp. We pooled our resources and had a nice pot luck dinner. A pot roast and veggies so tender you didn't need a knife, a nicely spiced pot of de-gassed chili and rice (took some of the fun out of Sunday for me), and a big pot of New England clam chowder and crackers rounded out the feast for the night. I think everyone held back on the dinner fixins so they could max out on the marshmallows and smoores around the campfire. At least the kids did. I wonder if marshmallows come in industrial size bags...?
A pancake and well-done bacon breakfast on Sunday was almost as entertaining as Saturday night dinner was. The Kane group revived the campfire for us to enjoy while relaxing after breakfast. Not a twig around the camp sites within 100 yards I think. The old folks (me) stayed behind while the younger ones went for a walk on the trails. They saw quite a bit of wild life in and around the stream. And they brought more sticks back for the fire.
Well, I guess that is about all that I have to recall. I will add a few photos for the site for all to see. I have enjoyed the 6 for the east coast so far and can't imagine not doing more. Remember, it isn't me that make these what they are, it is you. Come join us in the spring of 2002. Jim and Val Lockard (Apache Roundup Coordinators for 1999, 2000, 2001...and looks like 2002)

Spring 2001 Roundup Review
The June 2001 Eastern Region Apache Roundup 2001 was held at Promised Land State Park in northeastern Pennsylvania.06/12/01
Hi All,
It seemed to take forever for June 8th to get here. Val and I were wondering if we were going to be the only ones at Promised Land State Park for that weekend. Then it all just came together and happened! We had a great time. The weather cooperated with sunshine and fair skies for the whole weekend. There were six Apache's there with the proud owners just itching to show off their treasures. The Cornell's (Paul, Anne, Steven, Dan), the Schardt's (Tom, Jonathan), the Kaltenhauser's (Rich, Cat, Catarina), the Kane's (Bill, Bonnie, Sean, Kevin, Juliana), the Skibniowsky's (Steve, Jane, Byelka, Zoya), and last, but not least, Val and I. I should mention that John Justice stopped by to say hello but couldn't stay.
The weekend started off the usual way. Everyone getting set up and introductions to each other. We spent the evening sitting around the campfire and swapping stories and information. Saturday afternoon we all started to regroup for the pot luck dinner. Everyone brought something different for all to share. Again, more food than people to eat it! Many nice conversations around the dinner tables then off to another campfire until midnight. Paul was entertaining the group with some elaborate campground stories. You wouldn't believe the quantity of smoores that were consumed. Sunday morning we started the day with a pancake and Spam breakfast for everyone. Plus some morning campfire smoke to finish the wood pile. Lots of good byes and it sounded like everyone enjoyed the weekend as much as Val and I did. (just as a note...Rich reminded me that I had said that I wasn't going to organize another Roundup at the end of the first one in 1999. I guess I forgot....or lied. Either way, it has been fun.)
Anyone interested in a September or October Roundup should email me with their interest and dates. I'll see if another can be pulled off then.

Midwest Apache Roundup 2001 News:
Roundup Review
The third annual Midwest Apache Roundup (2001) was held at the KOA in Utica, Illinois, just outside of Starved Rock State Park. This is the same location that the 1st Midwest Apache Roundup was held at in 1999. What a great time! What great folks! Beautiful weather accompanied 7 Apaches, folks all the way from Texas & Wisconsin, a couple dogs and a cat (!), hiking, swimming, Perseid meteor shower, and a belly-busting potluck dinner followed by a late-night lip-smacking pudgie-pie bake-off!! Thanks to everyone who showed up - you are all true Apache friends! I'm hoping to get some more pictures successfully emailed to me (Anyone?? Buehler??...) In the mean time, here are the pictures I've received so far!
