The Second Canadian Apache Roundup took place in Southern Ontario, Sept.27,28,29 - 2002 at the Wildwood Conservation Area  (part of the Upper Thames Conservation Authority)

We had 7 Apaches show up at the 2nd Canadian Apache Roundup. Friday was wet for some setting up and cold but the rest of the weekend was real nice. In all we had 3 pot-lucks, of course lots of Apache talk, great walks in the woods, campfires, country music with the Apache song and the Spit Tobacco song. We ended with a group picture and promised to meet again.

Here is a little poem that I composed during Roundup telling about the  friendship glue that holds people together at our events. After some campfire discussion about what makes Apache Roundups work I woke up with this this inspiration at 4:33AM:

Friendship Glue

What's the glue that makes an Apache Roundup?
It's the little things given by all the little people.
It's Jim and Moe bringing over a nice cold beer.
It's Connie baking up all those delicious cherry pudgy pies.
It's Dave hauling all the wood from home for the big nightly fires.

It's Teresa lending her salad bowl and Connie her salad dressing.
It's Mike paying $5.00 for an Apache badge and refusing to take change.
It's throwing not one pot-luck; but three.
It's John refusing money for stamps after promising to mail the local paper
article on the 2nd Can. Apache Roundup.

It's Tiff and Bonnie exclaiming what a great site Wildwood is.
It's Jim playing our Apache song and the Spit Tobacco song, over many
campfire voices.
It's Tim quietly scanning the campfire scene with a big smile on his face or
him crawling under someone's Apache for a quick free repair job.
It's Tom and Donna loaning out their big new red BBQ for the potluck.

It's someone telling you a little about themselves by the fire.
It's the sharing and the caring of friends.
It's all the little things given by the little people...
It's friendship...that's the glue that makes Apache Roundups so great!

That's my brain wave.
Sincerely.  Les Ferris

Northeastern Region Fall Apache Roundup 2002 Review!:

The roundup was held at Pinch Pond Family Campground in Manheim, Pennsylvania October 18-20.

Hi all,
The PA October Roundup at Pinch Pond near Manheim PA was great. In spite of the weather on Friday night and part of Saturday, we still had a good time. The group was small, only 4 camper families showed up. But that didn't make it any less enjoyable. We had two new families join us this time. Bob and Cindy Gresh with their great looking Roamer(? sorry if this is wrong) with the great front yard post and "double refrigerator" options. John, Sally, and Emmett McCarthy with their Ramada with the rope lighting inside. It is always interesting to see what others have done to make their campers personalized. Tom, Melody, and Jonathan Schardt joined us again. Their HUMOUNGUS add-a-room would fit a whole family itself.

We had a nice time on Friday night around the campfire. Then Saturday morning was cold and damp. Fortunately, it stopped raining in the early afternoon. That made the potluck dinner easier on us all. Great food once again. With plenty of leftovers. And the campfire kept us warmed up well into the evening. It was their Halloween weekend and we had quite a few trick-or-treaters in some interesting costumes. Should have taken some pictures I guess.

We all gathered again Sunday morning for another food-fest breakfast. Plenty of pancakes, bacon, eggs, fried potatoes, toast and bagels, coffee, and more. I know I ate all I wanted and then some.

For those that couldn't make this October Roundup, get ready for June 2003. I have a Database started on the Yahoo apachecamperowners2 group site. Add you info (dates, where, etc) so we can get an idea of where and when to do it. There was some discussion about trying it again in PA near the Knobles' amusement park.

Photos are posted on the group site under Oct 2002.

Thank you all for joining in and making this another success.

preparing the campfire... campfire Blueberry pudgie pies are good! Fathers Day puppet show Potluck dinner - mmmmmmm! June 2002 Group Photo :]

The June 14, 15, 16 gathering at Interlake RV Park in Rhinebeck, NY started on a very wet note and ended with the sun coming out as we packed to leave.  Unofficially...Rhinebeck no longer is having a drought!  It rained and misted all day Friday on into Saturday morning.  With a few breaks in the rain we were able to get set up for the fun.  No dampened spirits for this group.  It continued to rain and mist off-and-on through to Sunday lunch time.

All but one of the 7 families showed up Friday (I won't mention which one Rich).  Unfortunately, we did have one cancellation.  We spent the evening with reintroduction's and welcomed two new families to the adventure.  The Davies were out on their first outing with the camper.  The Weinns were out for their first long-distance haul with their newly acquired camper.  There were a couple new tarps added by Saturday morning to keep the wet on the outside and off our heads.

It was a very nice mixture of new and returning families.  From young to not-quite-so-young.  I can remember when one of the attendees was at her first Roundup taking a bath in a plastic dish tub.  Wow!  This is our 4th year doing this.  Maybe I'll do another this October.

The potluck dinner was again wonderful.  So much food and so little time.  I didn't think anyone would have room to eat marshmallows and pudgie pies from the campfire.  I was wrong.  Ken, the "campfire expert" had such a great fire going that we all forgot about the wet and just grabbed our umbrellas and raincoats.

The skies tried to wash us away overnight Saturday.  By morning we were all ready for the potluck breakfast.  More food than you could shake a stick of firewood at.  Chocolate chip, blueberry, apple pancakes.  Sausage, eggs any way you wanted them, bacon, great toasted bread, frogeye salad, yellow watermelon. You name it, it may have been there.

The sun finally peeked out about noon as we were breaking camp.  That made the sad job just a little easier to do.

I think everyone had a good enough time to try another one.  I know Val and I sure did.

Thanks to everyone that came.  Without you, it is just another weekend camping.

Jim and Val (I can't believe I didn't quit after the first one)
